In Plain Sight at the Wellcome Collection explores how vision shapes the way we understand ourselves and the world around us. Bringing together historical objects, scientific instruments and contemporary artworks, the exhibition questions the authority of sight and examines how seeing is shaped by culture, bias and technology. Organised across four thematic rooms, the exhibition invites visitors to consider perception as both a physical and social experience.
The spatial and lighting design - designed by Satu Streatfield - was developed to support a wide range of sensory access needs. Textured flooring guides visitors from the museum entrance through the gallery, providing synchronised cues for the audio guide and haptic displays. Sharp edges were removed throughout, with display cases and walls designed to be rounded, tactile and warm to the touch. Rather than forming obstacles, these elements subtly guide visitors through the space independently. Plinth bases were set back to allow wheelchair users to approach objects closely, and cork was used wherever possible for its haptic qualities and intrinsic sustainability.
The exhibition was curated by Laurie Britton Newell and Ligaya Salazar.

Η έκθεση In Plain Sight στο μουσείο Wellcome Collection εξερευνά πώς η όραση διαμορφώνει την αντίληψή μας για τον κόσμο και τον εαυτό μας. Συνδυάζοντας ιστορικά αντικείμενα, επιστημονικά όργανα και σύγχρονα έργα τέχνης, η έκθεση αμφισβητεί την αυθεντία της όρασης και αναδεικνύει πώς η αντίληψη επηρεάζεται από τον πολιτισμό, τις προκαταλήψεις και την τεχνολογία.
Ο φωτισμός της έκθεσης σχεδιάστηκε από τη Satu Streatfield, lighting designer, ώστε να υποστηρίζει διαφορετικές αισθητηριακές ανάγκες, με δάπεδα που καθοδηγούν τους επισκέπτες, στρογγυλεμένες γωνίες και εκθέματα προσβάσιμα σε αναπηρικά αμαξίδια, ενώ η χρήση φελλού ενισχύει τις ιδιότητες αφής και τη βιωσιμότητα. Την έκθεση υπογράφουν οι επιμελήτριες τέχνης Laurie Britton Newell και Ligaya Salazar. Η όραση μετατρέπεται σε ένα πολυδιάστατο ταξίδι, προσφέροντας στους επισκέπτες μια εμπειρία βαθιά στοχαστική για την αλληλεπίδραση με τον κόσμο γύρω τους.
Η έκθεση φιλοξενήθηκε στο Wellcome Collection, ένα μουσείο και ερευνητικό κέντρο στο Λονδίνο που συνδυάζει επιστήμη, ιατρική και πολιτισμό, με διάρκεια από τις 20 Οκτωβρίου 2022 έως τις 12 Φεβρουαρίου 2023. Το μουσείο προσέφερε μια σειρά από συνεδρίες ‘Lights Up’ κατά τη διάρκεια της έκθεσης, στις οποίες οι επισκέπτες μπορούσαν να εξερευνήσουν το In Plain Sight σε φωτεινότερες και πιο ομοιόμορφες συνθήκες φωτισμού σε όλη την αίθουσα, συνοδευόμενες από σύντομη ξενάγηση με ηχητική περιγραφή των εκθεμάτων.
The museum is providing a series of 'Lights Up' sessions during the exhibition, where visitor are able to explore ‘In Plain Sight’ in brighter and more even lighting conditions across the gallery. Each session includes a short audio-described tour of the exhibition
